When I ask you "On a scale of one to five, how ornate do you want your leather goods?", this is what I mean...

Number one: this is going to be very bare-bones. No tooling, no decoration, and minimal use of metal hardware. No color contrast. Minimal smoothing and slicking of edges.

Bracers like this will cost around $15-$20

Number two: this will generally have some metal hardware and/or some light stamping. No color contrast. Edges are skived and rounded, but not well-slicked and hardened.

Something like this will cost about $20-$25

Number three: use of decorative artifices such as simple bands, paint, cutouts, conchos, scaling, or brig plates, as well as more ornate stamping and/or some simple tooling. Some color contrast is possible. Edges of all heavy leathers are skived and slicked to a hard smooth finish.

Embellished vambraces like this will run you $35-$40

Number four: heavy use of water forming, creasing, stamping and tooling, in addition to decorative artifices such as banding, paint, cutouts, conchos, scales, or brig plates. Multiple colors can be used. Edges of all heavy leathers are skived and slicked to a hard smooth finish.

Custom tooling like this will cost about $45-$50

Number five: very ornate, strange, or unique items such as brocades, large metal accents, or furs may be used, in addition to all previous techniques outlined above.

Something like this will cost in excess of $50
